Sanitise your Home

If you’ve just had a gathering or a visitor who has been unwell, try these ways to make your home more sanitary

  • Disinfect doorknobs, cabinet doors, handles, fridge door and touchpoints
  • Clean windows and closures that may have been touched
  • Dust furniture
  • Strip your sheets and cushion and disinfect
  • Spray down your mattresses and pillows with disinfectant and put in the sun to kill germs
  • Change towels, hand towels and dish towels and disinfect
  • Wipe down all surfaces and appliances in your kitchen, bathrooms, offices, playrooms and gym equipment
  • Air your matt/rugs and put them in the sun to kill germs; get them cleaned if you can
  • Sweep, then mop with disinfectant
  • Disinfect kickboards & skirting boards

Note: Cleaning should always start from the least soiled (cleanest) area to the most soiled (dirtiest) area in order to not spread the dirty to areas that are less soiled

To Disinfect

  • Alcohol at 70%-90% can be used as a disinfectant
  • Surface wipes with disinfectant or alcohol
  • 1 part 5% strength bleach to 49 parts water

Note: Any natural disinfectants or home recipes such as double strength white vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda, essential oils and borax are not strong enough to get rid of microbial contamination including salmonella, E. coli and COVID-19

Stay Safe

If you do not want to risk infection, please ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used, like protective eyewear, gloves, plastic aprons and clothing coverings that can be disposed of after use.
